Branding

Personally I am under the impression that if you do not ensure that your branding style fits what you are working on, then it isn’t going to work first time round – not how you want it to basically.

As typography and calligraphy is a hobby of mine, UI is something that I can consider something I take rather seriously, meaning I may over work on this section a bit much, but is defiantly worth it. Within my note book I may have completed several more pages and done a series more than what I will show digitally, this is because I am refining the numbers down and perfecting it each time to show progression.

Only until I physically had been writing out the title of the name which the game is known as, I realized that I had been miss spelling the game title and fixed that very swiftly.

With the title I worked on it all physically before even attempting to go near the idea of digital concepts for it, as I would be working on box art along side this section. If the branding title and the box art didn’t match, then something was obviously wrong and would have to be edited to ensure that it worked visually.

From the handful of written pieces I did, I selected 12 to use to ask a series of other students who had visual opinions and would be thankfully open to giving me comments. This way I can ensure that I am correctly comparing notes and ensuring that the work is done to a standard that is appealing.

From their opinions I could note things down more as to which were the ones that people said stood out to them more and even in a sense form my own type font that I may possibly use with this project – rather than using someone elses’ work.

Once I had ran past my work with one of my tutors they pointed out something that I had very clearly forgotten about getting into and that was a designing feature around the trim of the text title for the game. With these images I had now done I could pin them against the box art designs that I had been brainstorming possibly using.

Despite all of this also, I then realized that I should consider doing a series more of box art designs for the more dominant title forms that I enjoy the appearance of. I am understanding that this is more work for me to do but if it ensures that I can produce the best possible visuals for the game then I am willing to put in the extra time and effort.

Once I have several rough drafts of these images combined with text I shall run them past a number of people who have possibly strong opinions for their age (children of the age group I am aiming to go for as the target audience).

Having realized that I haven’t fully completed the written concept of Branding, I went and simply sought out basic knowledge of the difference between Branding and Marketting, the outcomes resulted in a series of questions that I believe I should attempt to answer. They are the following (From this site):

  • What are your core principles and values?
    • I want to ensure that each person involved is going to find enjoyment with the tasks at hand, if I am unable to achieve this then I would want to stern in saying that it is a requirement to ensure that I physically sit down and discuss progression.
  • What is your mission statement?
    • To create a fun method to help progress an alternative form of education.
  • What inspired you to build your business?
    • Interest and my nephew, with the hardships that I have faced and he is now experiencing for something similar, I want to provide those who experience something similar with the means of a fun even playing field.
  • Why do you want to offer your products or services to your target audience?
    • There is a lack of push towards this audience and the target market range, this may be because of how difficult it is to obtain the right balance between a game and an educational game.
  • What makes you unique?
    • There is a strong drive to get this game to be successful within an area of the Board game market left untapped. Education.
  • What is your internal company culture?
    • Unsure if I am able to respond to this question as it confuses me. I will look into it further in the for-see able future to come up with a more solid result of an answer.
  • What is your professional sense of style?
    • If you aren’t having fun with the job, what is going wrong and how can i improve.
  • What are your communication characteristics?
    • Unsure if I am able to respond to this question as it confuses me. I will look into it further in the for-see able future to come up with a more solid result of an answer.
  • What do you want to come to mind when someone hears your business name?
    • Fun, simple.
  • How do you want people to feel when they think of your business?
    • Interested.
  • How do you want customers to describe you as a company?
    • Trying hard for the right reasons with results.

With this, as I am a solo company currently, the outcomes are all coming from my own personal drive to improve an area that hasn’t been considered fully yet. There is an interest with connecting the concept of ‘Gaming’ and ‘Education’ together, with the project that is in production and any possible products in the near future, this is something I want to go towards.
